This book was written in first person-in that case, Susie Salmon. Fourteen year old Susie Salmon was an average teenage girl until she got murdered on December 6th, 1973. She was adjusting to her new home in heaven, which wasn’t anything like she had imagined it. It was like her personal playground. As she is heaven, she is watching life on earth go on without her. We not only see the turmoil of her family and friends, but also Susie herself going through various emotions. We all think that once a person is in Heaven, they would not feel loss or pain, though 'The Lovely Bones' shows a different side. As Susie watches her family move through the years, she realises how much she herself has lost. Will the family uncover her killer before it's too late? Will Susie forgive and cross over? Read to find out!
From the first page to the last page of the book, I was fully interested in the book. It is so compelling and realistic that you just can't seem to put the book down. I struggled to stop reading in the middle because it totally captured my mind. It is extremely touching and emotional at the end which may be too hard for some people to take in. I found myself in tears for some parts in the book. It is certainly a book that stays with you long after you finish the last page. If you ask me, I would absolutely recommend this book to you! This book is probably more suitable for readers 12 and above because it contains some horrifying content that may scare little kids. It is certainly a book you would want to read. If you don't read it, you will regret it! Along with all the interesting text, it still teaches you a deep, important moral that many kids need to know, especially during your teenage years. So once again, I strongly advise you to read this book!

A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Bad Beginning - Lemony Snicket
Starting off at a nice and calm beach, Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire received the terrible news that their house and their beloved parents all perished in an terrible fire. In the will of their parents, it states that the enormous fortune that the Baudelaire family owned will be passed on to Violet when she comes of age. Since the Baudelaires received the terrible news, they have been entangled with unfortunate events that seemed to never end. As the Baudelaires struggle to survive they begin to learn more about a man named Count Olaf who is the man behind causing these innocent children their woe. The story of these children is carried on on the second book called A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Reptile Room.
Although this book is only around 200 pages long, it presents an interesting story that will make you hungry for the next book. In addition, the way that the author writes this book greatly differs from other writers making the book interesting to read. Putting himself inside his own story and using a pen name called 'Lemony Snicket', I believe Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Bad Beginning is a great book suitable for anyone.

The Knife of Never Letting Go - By Patrick Ness
After finding something Todd never expected to find- a girl, his life changes entirely. Before long, Todd, his dog, Manchee and Viola, the girl, must escape Prentisstown. With only a knife and some vague directions from an old map, he must embark on a perilous journey to uncover the truth of Prentisstown and what it really takes to be a man. He discovers that what he knows might not always be true and the truth can be false.
The creation of Todd's world is very cleverly done. The author created Noise, the term used for men's never ending stream of thought. The fact that Todd's thoughts cannot be hidden form other's allows the book to build up the element of surprise and suspense.
After I finished the book, I was emotionally exhausted. The ending was very unexpected; it was like a punch in the stomach when I finished. I anxiously await for the next book to come out
The Last Olympian by Rick Riordan
Percy Jackson, a nearly 16 years old half-blood had come to replace Harry Potter to save the world. After killing monsters for 3 years, he meets up with the worst Titan ever, Kronos and his army. He has to defend the Empire State Building (the Olympus) and prevent western civilisation from dying. If western civilisation dies, all the gods and people in America will die. To prevent this, Percy must first prevent them from boarding into Manhattan directly by destroying their ferry, the ship which contains most of their troops and which is capable of going to Manhattan directly. Then he will have take the campers in camp half-blood to Manhattan and separate them into different groups which will defend each bridge and tunnel blocking the Titan's force from coming in. However, they only have 40 campers and they are missing the Ares campers (the god of war children), the best fighters of camp. They are mad at the Apollo campers (god of the sun) for getting the flying chariot causing them not to do anything at all . So anyway, the Ares campers will just watch their fellow friends die and the western civilisation collapsing. Also, the gods are busy trying to kill another threat, typhon so the gods wont be helping the campers. Will Percy Jackson lead the campers to victory or to their graves.
I like this book and the series very much. People may think this is like Harry Potter, well is different and in my opinion is much better than Harry Potter. I will recommend this book to who know or what to learn about Greek Myths. PS: please read this book after you finish the first 4 book of this series.

Plain Truth By Jodi Picoult
This book is about how a dead infant found on an Amish farm shakes the entire community. An eighteen-year-old, unmarried Amish girl, Katie Fisher, is accused of murdering her newborn baby. As the police investigate the death, they discover that the baby was not stillborn, but died shortly time after birth. Katie Fisher is charged with murder of her new-born son. Ellie Hathaway, a distant relative of Katie, reluctantly accepts the case. If you want to know the rest of the story, you will have to read the book.
I think the book Plain truth has a very surprising plot. The author Jodi Picoult understands a lot about the Amish people to make us understand the irony and the impossibility of Plain folk facing our legal system. It is a great story about values and choices and cultural assumptions. I highly recommend this book. It's a good legal drama with keen psychological study of a unique culture. Jodi Picoult's novel is very readable and you can’t stop reading it after you started. There is so much more about this story than what I wrote in the paragraphs, so you got to read it!

RULES by Cynthia Lord
One summer, Catherine meets Jason, a boy from the clinic for occupational therapy. Catherine finds he is a suprising type of new friend, partly because he has a speaking disability and moves around on a wheel chair, and partly because he is the kind of understanding friend she had always yearned for. Catherine also meets Kristi, a next door neighbour she had always wanted. Everything seems fine until Catherines own shocking behavior that turns everything upside down and she is forced to think: what is normal?
From this book, i learnt that judgment about a person cannot be made unless you really get to know them. Some people (e.g.~ people with certain disabilities) are often judged too harshly. A good is example from this book is when Kristi (Catherines new neighbour) first meets David and purposely points out to Catherinethat even normal brothers are a pain. This book overall was not only a easy book to understand, but it was also enjoyable and taught me many new things. I am sure everyone will be able to learn something from this book and I recommened this book to people of all ages.

Jumping the Scratch ~ Sarah Weeks
Unfortunately there is one more bad thing in store for Jamie-something he'd give anything to be able to forget, and this one leaves himself feeling like a complete stranger in the world. One of Jamie's neighbors is a girl in his class called Audrey. She is smart like him, and slowly they become friends. She said that she could hypnotize people, and he wondered whether she could help him with forgetting his secret. However, thinking about what happened to him just made him want to tell someone else about it.
Jamie tries in vain to find the magic trigger that would help Sapphy's memory 'Jump the scratch', like the needle on her favourite Frank Sinatra record, but in the end it is aunt Sapphy and Audrey who helps him unravel the mysteries of memory and jump the scratch in his own life. Jamie never thought that Jamie's horrible secret would be the key for his aunt to jump the scratch as well.
I would recommend this book to anybody from the age of eleven to one hundred and one because it will completely soften your heart and let you know what bad luck really is!
This miraculous book tells a story of a young teenage boy who has gone through a lot of obstacles to overcome what he has gone through. I found this book very interesting and memorable. The part of the book is that you find out what Jamie's horrible secret is at the very end of the book. This develops a cool twist that leaves your mind spinning. Want to know the ugly secret Jamie has to lock up in his heart and cover? Want to know why he would do anything to forget it? There is only one way you can find out. Read the book and uncover his heart-breaking story!

Beautiful Boy by David Sheff
Beautiful Boy is a story about drug addiction and Nic, the main character in the story, started smoking and using marijuana since he was in 7th grade. One of the reasons why he started using drug was because of his parents’ divorce when he was only about 3. Nic thought that marijuana would help him blocked out his feelings when he felt too much, and it also made things blurrier. After going to therapies and lectures by his dad, Nic was influenced by his dad’s talk about how drugs were bad for his health and how it will affect your life afterwards. Things started to turn well when he was in 8th grade; he stopped hanging out with the friends who sold him the drug. He started to read massive amount of books, which helped him to become the award- winning journalist. He started to work hard, wanting to get good grades so he could enter an university. Through Nic’s hard working, he entered an university in Los Angeles which forced him to leave his family, and that was when he started the drug, meth.
This book was written from parents’ point of view, so that we could feel how the parents felt when they were facing their child’s addiction to drugs. I think this is a really interesting book, because through the storylines, we could actually see the way Nic changed and the way the parents reacted. This is one of the most depressing stories I have ever read before, and I recommend teenagers to read this book.

The Other Sister-S.T Underdahl
I really enjoyed reading this book, because of how the tension was built. The way Josey dealed with things were sometimes not very mature, but she certainly got to her point, and made sure that everyone knew how she felt. Some parts of this book was emotional and I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading about family issues.
The Lovely Bones- Alice Sebold
When we first meet Susie Salmon, she is already in heaven. When she looks down from this strange new place, she tells us, in the fresh and spirited voice of a now fourteen year old girl, a tale that is haunting and full of hope.
Following her death, Susie watches life continue without her from above. Her school friends are trading rumors about her disappearance, her family holding out hope that she'll be found, and her killer is trying to cover his tracks. As months pass without leads, Susie sees her parents' marriage being contorted by loss, her sister hardening herself in an effort to stay strong, and little brother trying to grasp the meaning of the word gone.
As she explores heaven, it looks a lot like her school playground, with the good kind of swing sets. There are counselors to help newcomers adjust and friends to room with. Whatever she wants appears before she thinks of it-except the thing she wants most: to be back with the people she loved on earth.
With compassion, longing, and a growing understanding, Susie sees her loved ones pass through grief and begin to mend. Her father embarks on a quest that is very risky to ensnare her killer. Her sister takes undertakes a feat of remarkable daring. And the boy Susie cared for moves on, only to find himself in the middle of a miraculous event.
This is one of the most unusual books I have ever read before. The descriptions of heaven may be a bit unrealistic, but it was a great book for the most part.

Percy Jackson & The Olympians- The Sea of Monsters
It is the second book of the "Percy Jackson & The Olympians" series. There are the Lightning Thief, The Sea of Monsters, The Tiatan's curse, The Battle of Labyrinth and The Last Olympian. This fantasy series fascinated me since I first read it. Percy and all half bloods learnt a lot in these dangerous quests, although sometimes they need to bear the grief of death. He grew up a lot in this event, in addition, it contains interesting conflicts and humorous dialogue. I could barely stop reading it.
The main character Percy Jackson is a half blood, who is the son of Poseidon. At the end of school year, Laistrygonian giants attacked him and his cyclops brother Tyson with flaming cannon balls. Their friend Annabeth, the daughter of Athena came in time to help them, also reported the bad news: Protector of the Magic Boarder, Thalia Tree is dying, Camp Half Blood is in grave danger. At the same time, Percy's dream about their satyr friend Grover come true, that he is captured and forced to marry a cyclops in 2 weeks. The only way they can save him is to find the golden fleece on the island: The Sea of Monsters.
Percy, Annabeth and Tyson experienced uncountable danger and difficulties, but they overcome them. They escaped from the monsters swarming cruise"Princess Adromeda", shelled Hydra the nine head reptile, fleed from Charybodis the hurricane and Syclla the men eating monster, beated Circe who turn men into guniea pigs, and find the island, fought with the enormous Cyclops Polyphemus. With the gift from Hermes, they eventually saved Grover and Clarisse, in addition, get the Golden Fleece. He even deceived Luke to tell the truth to the whole camp in Iris-message, clearing Chiron's name for poisonong Thalia's tree; and fought Luke to gain more time for Clarisse. They finally completed the quest and saved the camp.
There are lots of meaningful moments that made Percy grow up. Once he had felt ashamed for having a cyclops as brother, but after they been through so many hard time together; he realized how important Tyson is to him, no matter what others think. At the end of the chariot competition, he admitted Tyson as his great brother and shared the victory with him. Everyone cheered. Tyson found both his friends and interest, he isn't self- abased anymore. The developing of trust and understanding of them taught me that communicating is important, but always think in their point of view before any hurting could be done.
Furthermore, there is one decision Percy had taken really impressed me, that he let Clarrise send the Gold Fleece back alone, since this is her quest and the deadline is close. Annabeth disagreed his incredibly riskful act, but Percy thought for the relationship between her father Ares and her, the feeling of quest been taken away, then insisted on giving Clarisse a chance. His desicion is proved correct soon when Luke attacked them. Although Clarisse and Percy were worst enemies, but he considered her feelings and trusted her. They were less tense afterward. I admired his guts, considerate, and trust. On "Princess Adromeda", he dared to fight Luke even he knew how well he is, just to gain time for his friends to esape.
In addition, I think the Circe's word:"Everyone has a guniea pig inside, and that is your true form." is quite appropriate. No matter how brave or strong a person is, they all have some thing they fear of, some time they were helpless.
In conclusion, Percy Jackson & The Olympians series is something you want to read it over and over. If you like fantasy or adventure stories, don't miss it. It contains excitement, adventure, joy, bitter, friendship, family, trust, respect, and courage, like a cup of espresso, bitter but mellow, stay on your tongue in such a profound way, make it unforgetable. Reading it improves your vocabulary and knowledge of Greek myth, and you will enjoy the story with the half bloods. Remember to reserve quick from the library, soon there will be a long list.

"Zinkoff has always been clumsy, but now they notice. Zinkoff has always been messy and atrocious and too early and giggly and slow and more often than not wrong in his answers. But now they notice. They notice the stars on his shirts and his atrocious hair and his atrocious way he volunteers for everything. They notice it all. Even the dime-sized birthmark on his neck below his right earlobe.

Only one thing is 100% certain: Armpit's life will never be like before again.
I think Small Steps is a very interesting book. When you start reading it, you won't want to stop. I strongly recommend people who liked the book Holes to read this book!
loser
Loser, by Jerry Spinelli is a heart touching story about a young boy, Donald Zinkoff, and why people are called “losers.” This story is about how Zinkoff was one of those people, and how he also got noticed. In this story, you first meet Zinkoff when he is about three or four years old, and are introduced into the world of kids competing and racing. Zinkoff soon enters first grade, and goes to school. He plays soccer and other sports. He loves to just play and has no regard for the rules of the game. His teammates think it's weird that he doesn't mind losing. He keeps a positive attitude and doesn't make many friends, although he tries.
He is first noticed when his fourth grade teacher, instead of placing him in the back of the classroom, like all the rest of his teachers had, places him in the front of the classroom. Kids start to notice him. A quote from the book is an example of how little they really thought about him beforehand:
"Zinkoff has always been clumsy, but now they notice. Zinkoff has always been messy and atrocious and too early and giggly and slow and more often than not wrong in his answers. But now they notice. They notice the stars on his shirts and his atrocious hair and his atrocious way he volunteers for everything. They notice it all. Even the dime-sized birthmark on his neck below his right earlobe.

The South Pole by Roald Amudsen
Robert Falcon Scott is a young man who's been in the navy all his life and passed out of Britannia as a midshipman, seventh overall in a class of 26, he knew he has to prove to everyone that he can do more by himself. Therefore, he took on the Discovery Expedition to South Pole, well no one knows it was to the South Pole, they only knew that its an expedition for discoveries. The ship they sailed on was named Discovery.
The book is really interesting as it talks about one person froma third party's point of view and you can see how the author goes "They see a huge ice shelf that's called Ross Ice Shelf but at that time, there wasn't a name for it so it was known to everyone as "The Barrier". A barrier that stops people from going to the South pole." The author tells you about what happened then, and how it could have been improved etc.
For all those travel-lovers out there, this is a "you-have-to-read-this-book-because-you'll-love-it" book! I personally don't like to read much, but this book did get me reading on and on, non stop. If you love to read non-fiction books, this is a great book too. It talks quite alot about the past because, well, Scott's from the past of course.
I hope whoever that reads it will enjoy as much I did. :)
Chasing Che by Patrick Symmes
Two hundred and twenty nine miles south of Buenos Aires, the engine of the BMW R80 G/S dies, and than silence. Nothing, nothing to hear or to see. These aren't the only problems Patrick Symmes since he arrived in Buenos Aires, first his luggage mysteriously disappeared and than no one could find his motorcycle in the harbor. In the book Patrick Symmes tries his best in being like Che, even if this means stealing office supplies from local newspapers.
I like how Patrick Symmes tries to follow the exact routes the two G's- as he like to call them- went, and even if those didn't exist he still tried to have the same experience the two young adults had.
Every book is different to others, this one connects history with travel, which I enjoyed. I learned a lot about Che, who was just another historic diplomat. Personally I would recommend this to people, who are interested in history and travel adventures.
Neither here nor there by Bill Bryson
Anyone who wants to have a good laugh, while learning about other countries, should definitely read this book!
I Am An Oil Tanker - by Fi Glover
The book will introduce you to alot of different places like Austria, Belgium, Beirut, Montserrat, New york, Palm Springs and many more.
Its starts of in a bar in California and Fi Glover was suffering from an interesting collision in a bar with Dj Bob, his Texan lcik and some truly bad line dancers. She sat in her hotel room fiddlinng with the radio at 3am and began to wonder how often she'd been here, washed up in a strange town, searching for somthing familiar but local on the dials.
This book as a sort of sense of humour that would just be enough to make you laugh.
It is funny and exciting how she gets to places and how she gets interviewed.
I fully enjoyed this book and im sure you will too.
Journey to the Alcarria by Camilo Jose Cela
The book is non fiction, about a traveler called Camilo Jose Cela, who anticipates a solo trip by foot to the center of Spain. The book is the story of his trip; the people he encountered, the landscapes he saw and what he thought. The author doesn't use any but an interesting type of writing which doesn't use too much descriptions but which offers efficient imagery by describing only the important parts
The Lost Continent by Bill Bryson
Near the beginning of the book Bill Bryson writes “As my father always used to tell me, ‘you see, son, there’s always someone in the world worse off than you.’ And I always used to think, ‘So?’”. I like this quotation because it is an anecdote without the reader noticing it much and at the same time it is humorous and true.
I would recommend this book to anybody who has or hasn’t been to America because if you haven’t you really will feel as if you have experienced the people.
Michael Palin's Hemingway Adventure
Hemingway Adventure sets out to explore the amazing and rich territory of Hemingway's life. By his inspiration, Palin experiences Hemingway's adventure by either bull-running in Pamplona, fishing for marlin in the Gulf Stream or drinking daiquiris in Havana or even been attacked by cheetahs in Africa "The cheetah bares his teeth and backs up. My hand wobbles. I breathe deeply and keep it moving. It's almost there, hovering above the big, sad, yellow eyes, when the cheetah delivers a sharp and wholly unexpected right hook to my leg". I like it how he added suspension which shows the contrasts between the the big, sad, yellows eyes and when the cheetah attacks him.
Palin's writing is like no other; he allows his audience to portray what he wants as if a picture were to be painted. Humor is what makes his work so entertaining, along with his keen insights on life.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes humor or been taken on a short journey along with Michael Palin.
The Thunderbolt Kid- Bill bryson
The 'Thunderbolt Kid' was what young bill bryson pretended to be when he dresses up as one of the superheros in his comic books. Although he tries to use his powers for good, throughout the book he is constantly zapping people into a smoking piles of ash.
Here is an interview with him
As you can see bill bryson's natural humor greatly contributes to his style of
writing. This great humor is shown by constantly poking fun at himself,
A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson
Facing Up By Bear Grylls
Bear Grylls then have the idea of 'conquering' Mt. Everest, since he has recovered gradually throughout the year. He and his friend, Neil Laughton then decided to aim for the Indian Army, to gain access to the Himalayan Mountains. The expedition leader was Neil Laughton, as Neil has a great amount of experience on Mt. Everest as he had once organized an expedition, but failed due to a huge number of deaths.
I recommend this book as the author, Bear Grylls, used techniques like imagery, to depict the where he went and so on.
Inti Thin Air by Jon Krakauer
Bill Bryson- Neither Here Nor There
This is definitely one of the funniest non-fiction books in existence. Bill Bryson's informal and sarcastic style presents all his personal accounts and memories in an incredibly funny manner (e.g. "I was sitting beside the heater, so that while chill drafts teased my upper extremities, my left leg grew so hot that I could hear the hairs on it crackle. The seats were designed by a dwarf seeking revenge on full- sized people; there was no other explanation"). I haven't exactly finished reading the book yet, but that's be one of my favorite quotes so far.
As a message to all readers who do not yet believe that a simple travel book could 'out-funny' a bookful of jokes compiled by a bunch of experienced comedians, read this at all cost. It will literally instantly erase all preassumptions that non-fiction books have to be dull and purely informative texts.
A highly recommended book.

Are You There God? Its me, Margaret by Judy Blume.
This book is basically about this girl named Margaret who's in sixth grade and has no religion. And throughout the book you can see the process and the problems she faced during her quest for a single religion. She's also confronted by many preteen females issues such as buying her first bra, having her first period and coping with belted sanitary pads, jealousy towards another girl who has developed womanly figure earlier than others, liking boys and voicing opinions if it differs from other girlfriends.
The book is quite simple so that's all I can say about the book or else there won't be any surprise when you read it. :) I recommend young girls to read it like, Year 5-7s. don't really recommend boys it read it, of course.

One day he recieves the news that his headmaster had bought a shiny brand new bike, unlocked, free for anyone in the orphanage to touch. With the help of his roommates that taunted and dared him to run away, he sees his chance and summons up his courage and runs away, also stealing some food and money from his headmaster's room, which turned out to be very useful.

Marc has taken refuge in Charles Henderson's house unknowning broke in. He discovers the house's owner when he saw a letter addressed to Charles Henderson, which he had not know was a spy. The German's found the house, broke in and searched to find the boy, Marc. Tortured for information and the German's got none. Charles returned and found him bleeding in his house, but still alive. Marc agreed to help Charles on his undercover mission and followed him all the way through.

Demon haunted world - Ryan Weinstein
Before you start to peer down the twisted labaryth that is "The demon haunted world" I must remind you to bring your ball of string because you will soon find you need it dearly.
This book is the perfect book for those who are interusted in TOK. You will also find this book perfect if you are a terrible sceptic that only wants to go deeper into strange ideas. As is all physics books, especialy those that are leaning more towards quantom mechanics rather than physics, you must allow yourself to realize that this book will make you a much worse person before there is any hope of becoming a better one. When you read this book, if you are able to grasp the strange truths, you also need to know that in no way should any of this ever be used in an argument. Reading this books like this is the closest you can go to reading a book on dark magic. Also if you want to take a bit of advice from me, mentioning this in an argument with a highly religious person will get you thrown out of whichever dwelling you happen to be in.
This book is ludicrous, strange, and blasphemy in most churches. It is also true.
If you don't mind a used torn up one with the latin phrase, "God have mercy on my soul" written over and over again in blood on the last 2 pages.
