The Swarm- Frank Schatzing

The Swarm is a novel that discusses the possibility of humans not being the 'dominant' species on Earth; and that a more intelligent life form's existence.

The book has a number of characters investigating what abnormal- and highly threatening- events that first occur around the world's oceans. There are a number of smaller stories that go on, but they all eventually merge with the main plot.

I can't explain too much about the book; that'll give the whole plot away (which, by the way, is one of the most detailed, intricate and complex plots I' ve ever read). What I CAN tell you is that this book certainly challenges the reader to think. It's not one of those short books one finishes after a night of reading; it's more of a book which- by the time the reader finishes the story- leaves the reader in deep thought.

The book doesn't simply discuss the so-called 'human superiority', it also mentions our impact on the environment, and our inability to comprehend the possibility of a species of superior intelligence.
